I qualified as a teacher in 1994, and my interest in dyslexia and specific learning difficulties began when I was appointed as a SENCo in 2004. Since then I've worked as an advisory teacher for two Local Authorities, supporting both schools and parents directly, and I currently also hold a part-time role with a specialist service supporting pupils with autism and communication difficulties.

Since November 2021, I've also worked as an independent assessor for the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Charity, carrying out assessments at their London hub. See my Helen Arkell profile ↗

A learning difference isn't a ceiling.

I set up SEND Consultancy around a simple idea, captured in the phrase "Believe, Achieve, Succeed": that understanding how you learn, dyslexia included, is the starting point for real confidence, not a label to work around. With the right understanding of it, a learning difference can become a genuine strength.

I assess primary and secondary school pupils, students in further and higher education, and adults. I have particular experience with learners who speak English as an additional language, with difficulties in maths, and with more complex profiles, where dyslexia sits alongside speech, language and communication needs, DCD, autism, ADHD or mental health difficulties.
